![]() More than once I had to go back and re-read archaic words and opaque sentences and paragraphs. It's written with beautiful and ornate language from a bygone era, which has its charms and its drawbacks. I recently re-read The Worm Ouroboros for this review after a space of a few years, and, as was the case before, I had to slowly break my way into it. It has fallen in and out of print over the years, although you can buy it on Amazon (I myself have the 1967 Ballantine Books edition, pictured here). But it is a marvel of fantasy, one of the all-time classics, and if you're a fan at all of the genre you owe it to yourself to at least give it a try. ![]() ![]() ![]() You cannot drink it whole and entire in a single draught it must be sipped and savored like a complex wine, and (to continue the metaphor) its taste is an acquired one. Eddison's The Worm Ouroboros is not an easy read. ![]()
